KABUL, Afghanistan — Afghan and coalition forces captured a known militant and another suspect during a mission overnight May 11 in northern Afghanistan to disrupt foreign facilitation networks operating between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
In the outskirts of Kunduz City, Kunduz province, approximately 50 kilometers south of the border with Tajikistan, Afghan army forces combined with coalition forces to capture a militant tied to Pakistani-based Islamic Jihad Union senior leadership.
The combined force arrived at the compound where the known militant was staying. After entering the compound, the force conducted a search without incident, detaining the targeted individual and one man suspected to be associated with the same network. Afghan forces coordinated with local Afghan national police to hand over responsibility for security in the area once the combined force departed.
