KABUL, Afghanistan — Afghan and coalition forces killed two militants and detained six suspects during operations early today in Helmand province to disrupt a Taliban network operating in southern Afghanistan.

In Marjeh, Nad Ali District, approximately 30 kilometers southwest of Lashkar Gah, Afghan and coalition forces executed a complex operation targeting a network that conducts attacks against Afghan national security forces and coalition forces in the area.

The assault forces cleared multiple compounds resulting in two militants killed when they threatened the force. An AK-47 and an RPK light machine gun were recovered and removed from the target.

Six men who surrendered to the force were detained for further questioning. Afghan forces led a search of the compounds finding opium seeds which were destroyed on site.
