KABUL, Afghanistan — One Afghan national army commando was killed and one wounded in an attack on an Afghan commando and coalition forces patrol in Chak district, Wardak province today.

The Afghan-led patrol, conducting dismounted operations, came under attack by armed militants using machine gun fire, in an area known for heavy militant presence.

This area in Chak district has been used in the past to launch attacks against Afghan forces and as a storage area for weapons.

The wounded commando was medically evacuated to a coalition hospital for treatment.

"These brave men are defending the freedoms of all Afghan citizens. They have proven time and again that they will not be thwarted by the criminals who seek to destroy Afghanistan".

No coalition forces or civilian casualties were reported.
