KABUL, Afghanistan — An International Security Assistance Force soldier was killed as a result of an improvised explosive device attack in southern Afghanistan May 28.
Sadly, another ISAF soldier has died of wounds sustained in action, after an IED attack last week. The soldier died with his family and friends by his side, following his evacuation home for medical treatment.
"ISAF has lost two very brave soldiers. Words cannot express our deep sadness at the passing of these two fine service members who gave their lives helping the people of Afghanistan," said Captain Mark Durkin Royal Navy, ISAF spokesperson. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of our fallen colleagues at this difficult and tragic time."
It is ISAF policy not to release the nationality of any casualty prior to the relevant national authority doing so.
Next of kin have been notified.
