KABUL, Afghanistan — Afghan and coalition forces captured an area Taliban commander and a suspected associate, and killed a combatant during an operation overnight to disrupt Taliban activities in northern Paktika province.
In Sharana District, Paktika province, approximately 50 kilometers southeast of Ghazni, a combined force entered a compound near Srah Kala village to capture a Taliban leader with direct ties to numerous attacks against coalition forces in the area.
Afghan forces called for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully and all residents complied except for one man who was engaged and killed after forces assessed he was an imminent threat. Forces discovered a chest rack with ammunition and a grenade in the room where the man was killed.
The wanted Taliban leader was wounded from debris when forces gained entry into the compound. Medical specialists treated his wounds and he was evacuated for further medical treatment.
The force detained one other man suspected to be involved in militant activities.
