KABUL, Afghanistan — Three days of continuous operations against insurgents by Afghan security forces and International Security Assistance Force soldiers in the Mirabad area have yielded significant results.
Search and clear operations, supported by precision close air support, have resulted in the death or detention of a number of insurgents, and the confiscation of weapons, ammunition, explosives and improvised explosive device components.
The removal of these dangerous items has significantly limited the insurgents' capacity to harm innocent Afghans in Uruzgan province.
"The confiscation of explosives and IED components used by insurgents is good news for the people of Mirabad and Uruzgan," said Brig. Gen. Richard Blanchette, ISAF spokesman. "IEDs are indiscriminate and deadly devices that insurgents use to kill and injure innocent Afghans and security forces."
Security forces and ISAF make exceptional efforts to avoid civilian casualties.
The close air support used in these operations was carefully coordinated to ensure the safety of innocent Afghans.
Afghan forces and ISAF troops continue to work hard in Uruzgan to benefit the local people.
Security operations in the region will continue to place pressure on insurgents, and ensure security and stability for the people of Afghanistan.
