KABUL, Afghanistan — An International Security Assistance Force service member was killed yesterday as a result of an improvised explosive device strike in southern Afghanistan.
"As they attempt to cope with their sudden loss, it is with great sorrow that I offer my profound condolences to the family and loved ones of this fine ISAF service member. We will honour his life by staying the course and fight the insurgents until security and hope are offered to the Afghan population," said Brig. Gen. Eric Tremblay, ISAF spokesperson.
"Once again, the insurgents show that they have no respect for human life as they resort to ruthless and callous tactics to impose their extremist views on the population of Afghanistan. Although, we lost one of our service members yesterday, we must also remember that 80 percent of the victims of the IEDs emplaced by insurgents are Afghans."
It is ISAF policy not to release the nationality of any casualty prior to the relevant national authority doing so.
Next of kin have been informed.
