KABUL, Afghanistan — A joint Afghan and international security force searched a compound in central Kandahar province last night in an effort to disrupt the flow of militants and bomb-making materials used in attacks against Afghan and international units in the region.

The force searched the compound near the village of Khosrow-e Sofia, northwest of the city of Kandahar, after intelligence indicated militant activity. A search was conducted without incident, and three suspected militants were detained.

Kandahar province has been increasingly plagued by Taliban violence as militants seek to disrupt governance and security in the region. Taliban commanders routinely seek strongholds in Kandahar to facilitate the movement of fighters into the heart of Afghanistan.

There were no ANA, international security forces or civilian casualties during this incident.
