KABUL, Afghanistan — Two International Security Assistance Force service members were killed today as a result of an insurgent attack that occurred in southern Afghanistan.

"To the families and friends of these two valorous service members, I offer my sincerest condolences. The entire ISAF organization stands behind you in these most trying times," said Brig. Gen. Eric Tremblay, ISAF spokesperson.

"Our mission is to assist the Afghan national security forces until they can face the threat posed by the insurgents on their own. This is dangerous and difficult work and our forces do it with great fortitude, proficiency and courage."

It is ISAF policy not to release the nationality of any casualty prior to the relevant national authority doing so.
