KABUL, Afghanistan — An International Security Assistance Force service member died today from wounds sustained in an improvised explosive device detonation in eastern Afghanistan.
"Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of this service member," said Brig. Gen. Eric Tremblay, ISAF spokesperson.
"We will pursue our work to defeat the indiscriminate IED tactics used by the insurgents as they pose a significant threat to the Afghan population."
Capt. Regina Gillis, U.S. press officer, confirmed the service member was from the United States.
ISAF is a key component of the international community's engagement in Afghanistan, assisting the Afghan authorities in providing security and stability and creating the conditions for reconstruction and development.
