KABUL, Afghanistan — Two International Security Assistance Force service members were killed yesterday, Sept. 6, when the patrol vehicle they were travelling in struck an improvised explosive device in southern Afghanistan.

"On this difficult day, I wish to convey my most sincere condolences to the families, friends and comrades of these strong and determined soldiers whose presence and tangible contribution were making a difference for Afghans in the south," said Brigadier-General Eric Tremblay, ISAF spokesperson.

"Despite these tragic and unfortunate losses, we will continue to work hard and assist our Afghan security partners in separating the population from the insurgents so that Afghans can aspire to something else than constant Taliban intimidation and violence."

It is ISAF policy to not release the nationality of any casualties before the relevant national authority doing so.

The next of kin have been informed.
