Kabul, Afghanistan - A joint Afghan and International Security Force searched a compound in Kandahar province Aug. 6 in pursuit of a Taliban sub-commander responsible for attacks in the area and linked to several senior Taliban leaders.
The Afghan-led force searched the compound near the village of Pasab, just west of Kandahar City. The force detained one suspected militant, who surrendered immediately and was identified as the Taliban sub-commander. A suitcase packed with clothing, a loaded pistol and a significant sum of Pakistani currency also was uncovered during the search.
Also on Aug. 6, a separate joint force searched buildings near the village of Senjaray, west of Kandahar City. The joint force detained six suspected militants in this operation.
No shots were fired and no one was injured during either of these operations.
The Taliban continue to alienate themselves from the populace through the use of indiscriminate IED attacks, which frequently target and kill civilians. Afghan and international security forces continue to work together to expel the Taliban and ensure the legitimate governance of the country.
