KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan and International Security Force detained several suspected militants today after searching a compound in Wardak province known to be used by a Taliban element responsible for supplying large numbers of weapons to subordinate militant commanders in the area.

The joint force conducted the search in the Chaki Wardak district without incident. No shots were fired, and no Afghan civilians were harmed during the operation.

Afghan and International Security Forces are working together to block Taliban support routes within the country and to ensure the safety and well-being of the Afghan people.

    ISAF casualties

One International Security Assistance Force service member died as the result of a non-combat related incident in Kabul, Afghanistan, Sept. 27.

Further details are being withheld until next of kin have been notified.

    Militants Stopped in Wardak

To correct a recent media report that stated there were civilian casualties associated with the ISAF operation in Wardak province, ISAF did conduct a military operation in Wardak province, Sept. 26, just after midnight, killing several militants.

Helicopter crew members observing the scene positively identified militants carrying rocket propelled grenade systems, executing hostile acts, and then engaged them.

ISAF scrutinizes every engagement trying to ensure our operations do not harm Afghan civilians.
