KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan-international security force searched a compound outside the village of Baghak, in the Jeldek District of Zabul province last night and detained a pair of suspected militants while searching for a Taliban IED cell leader.
In Ghazni last night, a joint security force searched a compound in a rural area west of the town of Nyazullah, in the Waghaz district.
As the joint force entered a building in the compound, an insurgent threw a grenade and the Afghan-international security force returned fire killing an insurgent. During the operation, Afghan members of the joint team searched a local mosque and found a pair of insurgents. The joint force captured a Taliban commander responsible for planning and conducting attacks against coalition forces and found multiple grenades.
In Logar last night, an Afghan-international security force searched a compound outside the village of Kowtgay, in the Muhammed Aghah District and captured a Taliban facilitator, responsible for planning suicide and convoy attacks against coalition forces.
In Zabul today, while in pursuit of a Taliban sub-commander responsible for IED attacks around the provincial capital of Qalat, a joint security force stopped a vehicle in a rural area in Jeldak district near Darrah village and detained two suspected insurgents.
No Afghan innocent citizens were harmed during these operations.
