13th Armored Corps Sustainment Command (13th ESC)

AL ASAD, Iraq — Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 751st Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 96th Sustainment Brigade, administered its second record Army Physical Fitness Test since arriving in theater Jan. 7. Soldiers had records of their previous performances and knew what areas they needed improvement in.

Since arriving in theater, many Soldiers utilized their time away from work to exercise and participated in various recreational activities, said Sgt. Steven Parker, a transportation movement request coordinator and a Lugoff, S.C., native. "The 751st witnessed an overall improvement in individual PT scores; three individuals in the unit scored a perfect 300," he said. Lugoff also scored 300 on his APFT.

Capt. Camala Lepak, the battalion supply officer with the company and a Columbia, S.C., resident, was one of the Soldiers to max her test. "I love running, but I hate running on the PT test," said Lepak. "I push myself to the point that I want to quit, but that's what lowers my time", she said.

Some individuals used this time to improve on their performance. SAMS-E operator, Sgt. Jonathan Griggs, a Sumter, S.C., native, improved his run time by almost five minutes. "I've had trouble with my run for over a year, but with hard work and the help of others, I finally made my time," said Griggs.

Griggs participated in a remedial PT program throughout the deployment. "I did PT with different sections and it paid off," said Griggs. He participated in 5 kilometer runs, running the stadium and the recently held Biathlon, he said. With the given mission, Soldiers assigned to the unit were afforded the opportunity to improve on their overall physical fitness performance.
