KABUL, Afghanistan — Leaders of the Farah Provincial Government and Farah Provincial Reconstruction Team participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony for a new high school in Masow Village, Jan. 24.

More than 300 students from throughout the Pusht Rod district will attend classes in reading, writing, mathematics, English, natural science, and history at the school.

Provincial Governor Rahool Amin dedicated the school and handed out more than 100 new school bags to the children in attendance.

"This is a great day for the Afghan families across the district; it is especially great for the children," said Amin. "Thanks to the security gains made here by the ANA, the ANP, and the U.S. Marines, we are able to open new doors for education of our youth and new hope for their futures."

Farah Police Chief Mohammad Fagir Askar assured the crowd his police officers would keep the school safe for their children.

"Look around you, your countrymen are standing tall to protect you and they will continue to do so here at this new school," Askar said. "Many of these policemen never had a chance for an education, but thanks to their sacrifices, many others now will."
