MAZAR-E-SHARIF, Afghanistan -- Soldiers of Red Platoon, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, rode out to check on a school's wall repairs being made by a local contractor in Mazar e Sharif, Afghanistan, April 29.
Mortar La Balkhatair is the local company that was awarded the contract and their workers are steadily making progress even though they only received half of the funds for the project so far.
"We have been working on the wall for a few months," said Shafiqullah Zaki, a supervisor for the workers of Mortar La Balkhatair. "Not sure when it's going to be finished, because they only paid half the money. When they pay the rest we can finish."
Now that the wall's progress has been inspected the funds should be released to the contractor for the completion of the job.
"The purpose of the wall is to keep vandalism and unwanted people away from the school," said 1st Lt. Emilio Aquino, the platoon leader, Red Platoon, HHC, 1st BSTB.
This is just one of the steps taken to continue the improvements being made to help provide security for the local population.
