KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan and international security force captured a senior Taliban weapons facilitator and a number of suspected insurgents in Kandahar province last night.
The facilitator primarily operated in Kandahar City and Panjwa'i District but is believed to have ties to senior Taliban leadership in Helmand and Kandahar provinces.
The security force went to a compound west of Sayrah Kalacheh, Kandahar District, and searched the compound without incident. After initial questioning, they detained the suspected insurgents, one of whom identified himself as the Taliban facilitator.
No shots were fired and women and children were protected by the combined security force.

The combined security force went to a compound southwest of the village of Aladad Kheyl in Charkh District. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for the occupants to exit the buildings and then secured the compound. After initial questioning, the security force detained the suspected insurgents.

Last week, a security force used a precision air strike to kill Sartar, a Haqqani network improvised explosive device cell leader, along with several members of his cell as they were placing IEDs along a road well known in Pul-e 'Alam District for attacks.
