KABUL, Afghanistan - A joint ANSF and ISAF assessment team has determined that artillery fire from an ISAF unit killed six civilians and wounded several others in Jani Khel on Thursday. The initial report only identified the wounded since the bodies of the six killed had been removed from the accident site prior to the ISAF units arrival on the scene following the errant rounds.
Over the past two days Afghan and ISAF leaders conducted shuras with local elders and members of the greater Jani Khel community to discuss the incident.
ISAF officials offer sincere condolences to those affected and accept full responsibility for the actions that led to this tragic incident.
Although the assessment team has reached this determination, a full investigation is ongoing.
