HAMLIN, N.Y. - Two CH-47D Chinook helicopters belonging to the New York Army National Guard will be conducting training on the water buckets used to fight forest fires at Hamlin Beach State Park, July 21.
The two helicopters will be practicing filling the buckets with water from Lake Ontario flying with the additional load and then dumping them back into the lake . The training will take place from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The training is an annual requirement for Army National Guard aviation units.
The two helicopters are assigned to Detachment 1 Company B, 3rd Battalion 126th Aviation which is based at Army Aviation Support Facility 2 at the Rochester International Airport. Sixteen crew members will be involved in the training.
The exercise has been coordinated with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the Coast Guard, and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic, Preservation.
