    Iraqi, MND-B Soldiers find weapons caches during patrols

    BAGHDAD - While conducting a combined patrol Thursday, Iraqi Army Soldiers and Multi-National Division " Baghdad Soldiers discovered multiple weapons caches.

    Iraqi soldiers from the 4th Battalion, 4th Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division, and Soldiers from MND-B's 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, discovered the caches within several meters of each other near Dora, south of Baghdad.

    The caches consisted of 40 155mm rounds and five directional charges prepared as roadside bombs.

    Local nationals in Adhamiyah, north of Baghdad, reported a vehicle-borne improvised-explosive device, which was in fact another cache, according the Iraqi police who responded to the report.

    Included in the find were 18 rocket propelled grenades and 14 kilograms of TNT.

    Soldiers from 8th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, while performing a cordon and search operation in the Albayaa province, found two individuals engaged in producing improvised-explosive devices. The individuals were detained along, with a cache which included an AK-47 assault rifle, eight AK-47 magazines, 150 7.62mm rounds, multiple knives and electronics equipment.

    Soldiers from 3rd Brigade, 6th Iraqi Division along with 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Inf. Div. Soldiers, found a cache inside a "bamboo cave" in Adahamiyah, which contained seven blocks of PE4 (explosives), three hand grenades, six Italian anti-tank mines, time fuses, a directional mine, an improvised-explosive device, four US M-16 magazines with rounds, a 55-gallon drum-shaped improvised-explosive device, a 55-gallon drum of explosive liquid, a smaller drum of the same material, three improvised-explosive devices encased in concrete, a 60mm mortar tube, a 155mm round, seven grenade fuses, detenonator cord, a remote controlled detonator for IEDs, a directional charge, gas masks, wires and assorted other bomb making materials.

    A second cache was found during the same mission, consisting of 21,600 armor-piercing rounds, 1,000 .54 caliber rounds, 8,000 tracer rounds, one RPK rifle drum, 145 60mm mortar rounds, 35 mortar boosters and a rifle without a bolt.

    Explosive ordnance disposal teams at the sites destroyed the caches.
