A First for Camp Hero: Open Communication, Near Solo Surgery

A first for the doctors at the Kandahar Regional Military Hospital, an Afghan doctor performs a complex orthopedic surgery with only a little guidance from U.S. doctors at Camp Hero's medical center Nov. 17. During the last two years, the hospital has transformed from a barely operable hospital in a school, to a full blown facility, serving service members and their family members from the Afghan National Army and the Afghan National Police. While the hospital is still under construction, officials plan to continue their development and level of service, to provide better care for Afghan service members.
