JOINT BASE BALAD, Iraq -- Staff Sgt. William Lloyd, 332nd Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron construction inspector, is the 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing's Tuskegee Airman of the Week for Nov. 1-7, 2009.
"Sergeant Lloyd has definitely been busy since he got here," said Brig. Gen. Craig Franklin, 332nd AEW commander. After congratulating the new winner in front of wing leadership, Franklin presented Lloyd with the award and a commander's coin at wing headquarters Nov. 13.
Filling a master-sergeant billet, Lloyd inspected 18 projects totaling $50 million -- improving quality of life and mission effectiveness. The Whitman, Mass., native operated as the sole warranty point of contact on JBB for more than 130 projects.
"I get job satisfaction from being a civil engineering guy," said Lloyd. "It's getting to see projects go from the drawing board to becoming operational -- being there from cradle to grave. It's a good feeling to know the work I've been involved in will have a long-lasting footprint in Iraq."
Lloyd, who's deployed here from Charleston Air Force Base, S.C., was awarded his Community College of the Air Force degree in construction technology with a 3.5 grade-point average.
He also serves as the JBB Wounded Warrior Program president. The program has aided the transfer of approximately 500 pounds of donations to injured service members at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany.
"As someone who has been deployed a few times, I recommend making the most of the time here," said Lloyd, serving on his fourth deployment in less than seven years. "Being deployed is a great time to take some classes and get involved in base organizations."
Lloyd was nominated by his supervisor, Senior Master Sgt. Timothy Lafave, 332nd ECES planning flight superintendent.
"Sergeant Lloyd brings experience and professionalism," said Lafave. "He can work airfield paving jobs or renovations and maintain his composure while dealing with the many, many warranty issues that occur daily."
The 332nd AEW Tuskegee Airman of the Week is open to Airmen between the ranks of E-1 and E-5, and is selected based on an Airman's on- and off-duty accomplishments.
