Rct. James Fye, a 17-year-old native of Rising Sun, Md., is currently training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title of United States Marine. Fye is training with Platoon 3085, India Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate Oct. 25, 2013. “I joined the Marine Corps because I wanted to be the best that I could be, to be my own man and become a United States Marine. I have several family members in the military, and it’s the best route to be able to support myself and the family I’d like to have in the future,” said Fye, who graduated from Rising Sun High School in 2013. Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent for females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Cpl. Caitlin Brink)
