Rct. Luke Holden, an 18-year-old native of Blackstone, Mass., is currently training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title of United States Marine. Holden is training with Platoon 2073, Echo Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate Oct. 3, 2014. “America doesn’t need a Marine Corps. They want one,” said Holden, a 2014 graduate of Blackstone Milleville Regional High School in Blackstone, Mass. “I joined the Marine Corps so I could protect people.” Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
