Hartford, Conn., native Sgt. Patrique Fearon, a combat engineer with 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, received the Bronze Star Medal with Combat V, March 29, 2012, in San Mateo. On Nov. 25, 2010, now 24-year-old Fearon, sprinted 100 meters through enemy fire to a wounded Marine and helped drag him to cover. During the same mission, Fearon exposed himself to medium machine-gun fire to allow the squad to advance with no further casualties. “It’s a huge honor to receive this award, said Fearon, who graduated from Conard High School in 2006. “But it’s more about the guys who I was out there with.” Fearon is married to Cassandra Fearon, and they have a two year-old son, Bryson, and a daughter on the way. “My wife is very proud of me; my son is very proud of me,” Fearon said. “And my parents are proud of me.” The Marines of 1st CEB were deployed to Helmand province, Afghanistan, September 2010 to April 2011 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Fearon, along with his fellow Marines, is scheduled to deploy again to Afghanistan in May.
