    Beginning in September 1947, as Egypt was in the throes of a deadly cholera epidemic, Navy Medicine went into action. Working in tandem with personnel at the Abbassia Fever Hospital in Cairo, Navy Medicine began vaccinating the local population and conducting vital research for treating cholera.
