UNDISCLOSED LOCATION - More than 200 service members deployed to the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing came together for a barbecue and fellowship sponsored by the chapel community in observance of the National Prayer Breakfast at the base pavilion today.
“Since 1953 the National Prayer Breakfast has been an event for politicians, businessmen and leaders in Washington, D.C., to get together and pray for the President and his family,” said Lt. Col. Scott Adams, 386th Air Expeditionary Wing, chaplain.
Along with the food and fellowship, members were invited to write their prayer requests on two large cloth sheets for anyone on their hearts or anything in their minds.
The sheet will be left in place for a few days to allow other service members not able to attend the event to write their prayer requests and have members of the chapel community pray for their needs.
“It’s almost a magical moment when you invite people to bow their heads and pray,” he said. “Whatever their religion is, whatever their level of faithfulness is, we believe in prayers and we think prayers make a difference.”
Even as an unforecasted drizzle fell during the event, members at "The Rock" took turns writing their prayer request on the sheets.
“I think even when one single six-year-old child prays, God hears that but I think there is a certain intrinsic power in numbers when religious people pray together,” he said. “Prayer not only changes things, but prayer changes people.”
