    Train the trainer

Story by 2nd Lt. Jennifer Frazer

    102d Public Affairs Detachment

FORWARD OPERATING BASE SPIN BOLDAK, Afghanistan - First Lt. Gerald Rogers and police mentor Steven Fowler with Security Force Assistance Team (SFAT) 20, Combined Task Force (CTF) 4-2 met with Afghan Uniformed Policemen Sgt. Abdulla and Sgt. Noorulah to train them to become instructors for the Afghan Uniformed Police (AUP) in the Spin Boldak district, March 6 in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan.

During the meeting, Abdulla and Noorulah were taught how to develop a training calendar and how to effectively teach a class so they can train their lower enlisted soldiers on a variety of skills.

“Our main effort was to make better training officers,” said Fowler.

Abdulla and Noorulah were selected to become cadre for their understanding of the training they have received and their ability to relay it to others. They will begin training the AUP soldiers with only a little mentorship and guidance from SFAT 20.

“We were very impressed, especially when we tried to relay what we wanted to teach and it was something they had already come up with on their own,” said Fowler.

The AUP taking on the responsibility to train their own soldiers indicates they are ready to take charge of their own.

“We have been very impressed with the last three months that they seem very eager to learn. They understand the United States will be leaving and they want to learn how to succeed on their own,” said Fowler.
