TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. – Atop a windswept mountain overlooking the combat logistics support area, an Annapolis, Md., native reaffirmed her oath of office during a promotion ceremony here, May 27.

“I … do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter,” said 1st Lt. Taylor Bates, a platoon commander with Transportation Support Company, Combat Logistics Battalion 6, 2nd Marine Logistics Group.

Bates, a 2011 graduate of Penn State University, pinned on the rank of first lieutenant on the verge of the battalion’s deployment to support Operation Enduring Freedom, where CLB-6 will conduct combat logistics operations.

The battalion recently spent more than a month completing the Integrated Training Exercise at Twentynine Palms in preparation for the deployment.
