SOTO CANO AIR BASE, Honduras - Joint Task Force-Bravo is known as being a "team of teams," where every branch of service within the Task Force plays a vital role in accomplishing the overall mission. The joint environment is readily evident in the JTF-Bravo Joint Security Force's new K-9 unit, where three branches of service are now represented.
The new K-9 unit consists of U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Chad Jones, U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Matthew Liimakka and U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Ryan Kelley, U.S. Navy Master-at-Arms Petty Officer 3rd Class Ryan Jarnberg and U.S. Navy Master-at-Arms Petty Officer 3rd Class Tyler Drinski.
Having three branches of service represented within a K-9 unit is unique, but functioning as a multi-service unit is nothing new for the JSF.
"The Joint Security Force here have a history and reputation of melding together different branches of service with a commitment to excellence," said Maj. Robert Shaw, JTF-Bravo JSF commander. "With the reduction in force in the services, it is more common to work with multiple branches within the Department of Defense. This ensures our interoperability in accomplishing the diverse Joint Security Force mission with professionals."
Shaw said having the Army, Air Force and Navy all working together in one small unit provides a unique situation for the members of the JSF to learn about each other's branch of service.
Additionally, the combined experience and expertise garnered from three branches of service will serve to benefit the overall capabilities of the JSF.
"It is a great opportunity, because we learn about each other's service, culture and history," said Shaw. "Our experience and knowledge are increased collectively and individually. This benefits every 'Regulator' that is a part of the Joint Security Force and solidifies us as a team."
