BELIZE CITY, Belize - Three of the five New Horizons Belize 2014 construction crews have turned over the keys to facilities as of June 13, while two remaining construction sites are putting the final touches on building additions.
The Hattieville Government School pre-school addition is scheduled to be turned over 10 a.m. June 18, and the Sadie Vernon Technical High School is scheduled to be turned over 10 a.m. June 19.
During the ribbon-cutting ceremonies, the Belize Defence Force lead engineer and the U.S. Air Force project manager at each site stood alongside their commanders as each building's eventual owner cut the ribbon to their new facility.
The partnership at the sites was imperative to the success of each building's completion, said U.S. Air Force Col. Dan Pepper, New Horizons Belize 2014 Task Force commander.
Belize Defence Force Gen. David Jones, BDF commander, also relayed his appreciation to the BDF Light Engineer Company, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps engineers for their coordination and collaboration on the construction sites.
The Edward P. Yorke High School principal cut the ribbon on his new building to be used by senior classes at the school June 3. The Stella Maris School Belize Academy for the Deaf principal cut the ribbon on three classrooms and two vocational skill rooms June 12. And the Belize Minister of Health cut the ribbon on behalf of the Western Regional Hospital staff in a ceremony June 13.
