OBERAMMERGAU, Germany - U.S. Army officers from the 5th Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery Regiment recently participated in the NATO Tactical Evaluation Course that enables NATO to assess the combat capability of its Surface Based Air Defense (SBAD) units.
The course was held at the NATO school located in the southern Bavarian town of Oberammergau, Germany on Jan. 26-30.
As members of the Armed Forces serving overseas in support of NATO operations, 5-7 ADA Soldiers took advantage of the multi-national training to foster and improve relations with NATO Allies.
Nine 5-7 ADA officers worked hand-in-hand with their NATO Allies at the course, receiving exposure to other nation’s air defense systems and perspectives. The class roster consisted of U.S., Dutch, Italian, French, British, and Slovakian soldiers.
The NATO (SBAD) Operations TACEVAL course is expressly designed to receive, teach and grow a bench of NATO evaluators trained and ready to support tactical evaluations for NATO Air Defense Units.
For one of the participants, U.S. Army CW2 Justin Weissert, a standardization officer with 5-7 ADA, the course was the professional highlight of his time spent as a Soldier in Europe.
“It was the best opportunity I’ve had to work together and share information with our allies in NATO that I’ve had during all my years over here (Germany).”
