Navy Misawa’s softball team won the 2016 Misawa Air Base Intramural Softball League Championship August 2.
The team defeated the U.S. Air Force 35th Fighter Wing’s Maintenance Support Group during a hard-fought championship tournament double-header.
Navy Misawa’s team consisted of Sailors and civilians from Navy commands based in Misawa.
Chief Hull Technician Bryan Abbot, assigned to Naval Air Facility Misawa, from Macomb, Ill., coached the team.
The season started in May and completed August 2. The team played 25 games during the season.
“It was a pleasure and honor to coach and play alongside these Sailors and civilians who are great ambassadors for our community. I couldn’t have hand-picked a better group of people to play with,” said Abbot.
The team did not hold regular practices and played three games per week on average.
Misawa Air Base has a large variety of intramural sports leagues that have competitions throughout the year.
