MISAWA, Japan (NNS) – Sailors from Naval Air Facility Operations Department presented a C-12 Huron Aircraft to a group of Japanese junior high students as part of an English camp Aug. 4.
Aomori Prefecture and Misawa City Board of Education host the English camp, also known as the English learning project, and Misawa Airbase participates in it annually.
The program is for junior high students of Misawa and the Aomori Prefecture. The purpose is improving the students English communication skills. The tour consists of several static display presentations of Navy and Air Force assets, interacting with American service members, as well as a meal at the base club.
"It was an amazing time! I enjoyed enlightening the kids about aircraft systems and operational requirements," said Naval Aircrewman 2nd Class Morgan Reeves, presenter of the C-12 aircraft. "They really enjoyed getting in the flight station and moving the controls around. I talked about safety and emergency items that were available on board, and they found it quite humorous that such a small plane has a lavatory"
While at the Navy terminal, the students tried on gear that the aircraft maintainers use on the flight line and also viewed a P-8 Poseidon reconnaissance and surveillance aircraft.
“This is another great opportunity to interact with our host country and build upon our partnership,” said Reeves. “The students are so receptive and attentive. It makes for an extremely worthwhile experience.”
