KABUL, Afghanistan — Joint Afghan and international security forces searched multiple compounds, Aug. 27, in Kandahar and Kundoz provinces after receiving reports of militant activity in the regions.
In Kandahar province, a joint military force searched a location just west of Kandahar City in pursuit of a Taliban element known to finance and transport weapons and supplies into the region. The forced searched the buildings without incident and detained six suspected militants.
In Kundoz province, a joint military force searched a compound near the village of Chehar Darrechi suspected of being used by an element of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan operating in the region.
While travelling to the compound, the force received fire from militants positioned in different locations, engaged them, and killed several enemy militants. One local national civilian was caught in the crossfire and suffered a gunshot wound to the arm.
The force searched the compound and uncovered several rocket-propelled grenades, seven assault rifles, multiple grenades and chest racks. Among the enemy dead was a female militant who engaged the force, armed with an assault rifle and wearing a full chest rack of ammunition. All weapons were destroyed in place. The force detained one suspected militant and evacuated the wounded local national civilian to a military hospital to receive medical treatment.
There were no Afghan or international security force casualties during either incident.
Afghan and international security forces continue to combine skills and resources to disrupt these attacks and help ensure the legitimate governance of the Afghan people.
ISAF is a key component of the international community's engagement in Afghanistan, assisting the Afghan authorities in providing security and stability and creating the conditions for reconstruction and development.
