Army ROTC cadets with the University of Wisconsin-Madison hold training Oct. 14, 2022, at the ropes bridge on the cantonment area at Fort McCoy, Wis.

According to Army ROTC, training in Army ROTC prepares a cadet “for a lifetime of challenges in the military and in the civilian world.” The training cadets receive includes time management, stress management, military skills, land navigation, and battle drills.

“You do not have to make a commitment to Army ROTC to gain from its training program. We offer courses at the freshman and sophomore level that are available to all students. ... The first two years are referred to as the Basic Course and is designed to provide you with the fundamentals of leadership, military history, practical experience, and a foundation in ethics and self-discipline.”

Fort McCoy regularly hosts ROTC training.

Fort McCoy was established in 1909 and its motto is to be the “Total Force Training Center.” Located in the heart of the upper Midwest, Fort McCoy is the only U.S. Army installation in Wisconsin.

The installation has provided support and facilities for the field and classroom training of more than 100,000 military personnel from all services nearly every year since 1984.
