MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, NC – U.S. Marines from II Marine Expeditionary Force, Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force New York are transiting aboard the USS Arlington (LPD 24) in support of this year’s Veterans Week celebration held in New York City from Nov. 9-14.

The festivities mark the 103rd observation of Veterans Week New York, providing the II MEF Marines, comprised of various ranks and occupational specialties, the opportunity to engage with the American public throughout NYC and the tristate area. SPMAGTF-NY Marines will be joined by Marines from 1st Marine Corps Recruiting District, Marine Corps Recruiting Command to participate in events including band performances in Times Square and public parks, the staging of shipboard military vehicles, parades, community relations events, and equipment displays.

"II MEF's participation and support of Veterans Week New York remains a fantastic opportunity for II MEF Marines to demonstrate our alignment to U.S. Naval operations, showcase the professionals within our ranks, and engage with our fellow citizens as we commemorate Veterans Day,” said U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Milton Rehbein, the SPMAGTF-NY operations officer.

II MEF is closely aligned to the 2nd and 6th Navy Fleets in Europe and Africa, regularly sending Marine Expeditionary Units and other Marine-Air Ground Task Forces based in Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. Most recently, II MEF Marines assigned to 22 MEU returned from a deployment to Europe in October. Marines and units from II MEF have recently supported Operation Allies Welcome, Defense Support of Civil Authorities for COVID-19 response, Haiti disaster relief efforts and supported exercises in Norway and operations with European nations in the Baltics.
