Capt. Todd Whalen, chief of staff, Commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic (SURFLANT), announced SURFLANT’s FY2022 fourth quarter Sailors of the Quarter, Nov. 8.
Whalen announced Legalman 1st Class Paul Dunne as Senior Sailor of the Quarter (SSOQ) and Yeoman 2nd Class Adeem Bennett as Junior Sailor of the Quarter (JSOQ).
SURFLANT’s Command Master Chief (CMDCM) Evan Hall congratulated the nominees and reflected on what made the winners, as well as the other candidates, unique.
“These Sailors have been impressive from day one and displayed great character throughout the board process,” said Hall. “The competition was stiff and that lets me know the Navy is in good hands.”
Dunne reflected on the hard work and dedication it took to receive this accolade.
“Being selected as CNSL’s Sailor of the Quarter means a lot and I am extremely honored to be chosen,” said Dunne. “It means that my dedication and hard work towards the mission was noticed and rewarded.”
The announcement serves as the first time Bennett being awarded JSOQ in his career.
“Winning Junior Sailor of the Quarter is a major accomplishment,” Bennett said. “It’s a milestone I set for myself when I first checked in to SURFLANT. Winning motivates me to do great things while I’m here for the next four years.”
The Sailors will have their photos displayed on the SURFLANT quarterdeck to show recognition for their accomplishment.
These winners are part of four groups picked each year, one every quarter, in which four individual winners are picked at the end of the year to represent the command as Sailors or the Year. Whether quarterly or annually, these Sailors represent the “best of the best” at the command.
SURFLANT mans, trains and equips assigned surface forces and shore activities, ensuring a capable force for conducting prompt and sustained operations in support of United States national interests. The SURFLANT force is composed of nearly 80 ships, 17 pre-commissioning units, and more than 30 shore commands.
