KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan citizen uncovered a large munitions cache in the Bagram District of Parwan province and reported it to coalition forces Aug. 10.
Responding to an Afghan citizen who uncovered the cache while digging, a coalition force explosive ordnance disposal team secured the site, detonated munitions that could not be safely removed, and transported the remaining munitions to Bagram Air Field for disposal.
The cache included more than 120 mortars. These types of munitions have been used as improvised explosive devices that have injured and killed many innocent Afghan civilians.
"The citizens of Parwan are taking positive action to ensure these types of munitions don't get into the hands of the insurgents," said U.S. Army Col. Thomas E. Drew, deputy commanding officer, 86th
Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Task Force Wolverine.
