KABUL - An Afghan and coalition security force detained several suspected insurgents in Kandahar province Wednesday while in pursuit of a Taliban weapons facilitator for Taliban fighters operating in Kandahar City.

The security force targeted a series of compounds in Sardaran in Panjwa District to search for the facilitator. Afghan forces called for all residents to exit the compounds and then secured the area. After questioning the residents, the assault force detained the suspected insurgents.

"The peaceful people of Kandahar City have lived with the Taliban's violence and severe oppression far too long," said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director. "Afghan and coalition forces will pursue and capture the Taliban weapons traffickers and fighters who've introduced these conditions and return peace and security to the Afghan people."
