KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan and coalition security force detained several suspected insurgents in Kunduz province Aug. 11 while in pursuit of a Taliban and Haqqani Network sub-commander who facilitates weapons, improvised explosive device and rocket materials.
The security force targeted a compound northeast of the village of Gerdan in Chahar Darah District to search for the commander, who is in direct contact with both Haqqani Network and Taliban senior leaders.
Afghan forces called for all the residents to exit the compound peacefully and then secured the area. After questioning the residents, the assault force detained several suspected insurgents.
"The Taliban and Haqqani Networks are known to recruit foreign fighters from all over the world to conduct terrorist operations in Afghanistan," said U.S. Air Force Col. James Dawkins, ISAF Joint Command
Combined Joint Operations Center director.
The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children throughout the search.
