KABUL - An Afghan and coalition security force detained several suspected insurgents in Khost province Thursday, including a Haqqani Network sub commander who supplies weapons to other Haqqani commanders operating in the area.
The joint security force targeted a compound north of Samawat in Manduzai district and Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully. After questioning all the residents, the security force identified and detained the commander along with the other insurgents.
"We are happy to report the capture of another Haqqani Network commander," said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director. "This capture will reduce attacks against Afghan civilians, as well as Afghan and coalition forces, by disrupting the facilitation efforts within the Khost-Gardez Pass and removing this commander from the battlefield."
The assault force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children throughout the search.
