KABUL - An Afghan and coalition security force detained several suspected insurgents in Helmand province Thursday while in pursuit of a Taliban commander and member of the Nawa Military Commission.
The commander is responsible for decisions involving military operations and matters of governance within the Taliban-controlled areas of Nawah-ye Barakzai District.
The joint security force targeted a series of remote compounds in Nawah-ye Barakzai District and Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully. After questioning all the residents, the security force detained the suspected insurgents.
The assault force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children throughout the search.
"We're bringing to justice to those that have held the law abiding citizens of Helmand province hostage with brutality." Col. Rafael Torres, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director said.
