KABUL- An Afghan and coalition security force captured a key Taliban weapons distributor for insurgents operating within Kandahar City and detained several additional suspected insurgents in Kandahar province Sunday.
The security force targeted a series of compounds on the outskirts of the city of Kandahar in Daman District. Afghan forces called for all occupants to exit each of the compounds peacefully and then secured the area. After questioning the residents, the security force detained the suspected insurgents, including the Taliban weapons trafficker.
"We will continue to pursue these violent criminals who threaten and endanger the innocent people of Afghanistan," said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director. "Capturing the key commanders and weapons facilitators is key in disrupting these terrorists' plans."
The assault force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children throughout the search.
