KABUL – An Afghan and coalition security force detained two suspected insurgents in Khost province Tuesday including a Haqqani Network facilitator responsible for the coordination of the movement of munitions and supplies into his area.
The security force targeted a compound in remote Sabari district, to search for the facilitator. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully and then cleared the buildings. After questioning all the residents, the security force identified and detained the facilitator and one additional suspected insurgent. The security force found an automatic weapon at the scene.
“The Haqqani Network is bringing weapons and foreign fighters into eastern Afghanistan to carry out attacks against to Afghan people,” said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director. “Afghan and coalition forces are focusing on capturing the members of this network. Just this month, more than 10 Haqqani leaders have been captured along with more than 40 of their fighters.”
The assault force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children throughout the search.
