KABUL - An Afghan and coalition security force detained two suspected Taliban insurgents in Paktiya province Tuesday while in pursuit of a Taliban sub-commander and highly active improvised explosive device expert.
The security force targeted a compound in the village of Ebrahim Khel in Zurmat District in pursuit of the commander. Afghan forces called for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully and then secured the area. After questioning the residents, the security force detained two suspected insurgents.
"IED experts enable this dangerous and indiscriminate tactic to go on amongst the Afghan men, women and children. Innocent civilians are killed by these devices, and we will not stop targeting and capturing the perpetrators until they're off the streets," said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director.
The assault force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children throughout the search.
