KABUL, Afghanistan - The chief of police for the Daman District of Kandahar province was among 13 Afghan National Police and Afghan civilians killed and wounded in an insurgent vehicle-borne improvised explosive device attack Aug. 17 in Daman.
According to reports, the insurgent pulled alongside the police chief's vehicle while travelling toward Kandahar city and detonated the explosives-laden vehicle. The blast killed the chief of police, three other ANP members and an Afghan civilian. Four ANP members and four other civilians were wounded in the attack.
"This barbaric attack demonstrates the insurgents' desire to undermine the peace and stability of Afghanistan," said U.S. Air Force Col. James Dawkins, ISAF Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director. "The insurgents continue to offer nothing but pain and suffering to the Afghan people."
