KABUL- An Afghan and coalition security force detained two suspected insurgents in a Helmand province Friday while in pursuit of a Taliban commander responsible for attacks against Afghan civilians and Afghan and coalition forces in an area heavy with constant Taliban attacks.
Afghan and coalition forces went to a remote compound in Lashkar Gah District to search for the commander. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully and then secured the area. After questioning all of the residents at the scene, the security force detained the suspected insurgents. The assault force found multiple blasting caps, manuals on mines and a shotgun.
"Our joint operations will continue so that the people of Helmand can continue moving forward towards a safe, secure, and prosperous province," said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director said. "Those that stand in the way of those efforts, will be held accountable and targeted for capture."
The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children throughout the search.
