KABUL – Clearing operations continue as an Afghan and coalition security force detain several suspected insurgents in Kandahar province Sunday while in pursuit of a Taliban commander in charge of improvised explosive device attacks and training in Arghandab district.
His fighters are responsible for attacks against Afghan government officials and Afghan and coalition forces in Kandahar City and Arghandab district.
The security force targeted a series of compounds in the village of Mohammad Ya’qub Kalacheh in Arghandab district. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully and then secured the area. After questioning all of the residents at the scene, the security force detained six suspected insurgents.
“We’re assisting the brave Afghan people of the Kandahar province to dismantle terrorist organizations and bring to justice the leaders who use violence and destructive means to destroy efforts to establish peace and stability in this southern province,” said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres, international Security Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director.
The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children throughout the searches.
